THE RESURGENCE OF THE LOAFER
From London to Paris, Paris to Milan, Milan to New York. Wherever to wherever, if you ain’t been living under a rock, you’ve seen the shift towards cleaner and more sophisticated dressing. Guys who were once “tech fleece titans” have ditched their tight tracksuits for knitwear sweaters, chrome heart frames (Tiktok yellow cart special), blank street coffee cups, and the centrepiece of it all; loafers.
Now we’ve seen this kind of cult overnight following occur once before. 2024 came and suddenly everyone and their mum is wearing timbs. To the point where I couldn’t differentiate who really liked and enjoyed their history of “buttas”, vs who just wanted to be like the next “ Tiktok fashion guy”.
The thing with loafers, surprisingly, is that I’m actually enjoying the resurgence (from the sidelines). The loafer is a real timeless sihoulette, but unlike with the timberland craze of 24’, everyone understands there’s a time and a place. I don’t expect to be going to a cinema and seeing you in a Rugby Polo, jorts and a pair of loafers. That’s how it was with Timbs last year, like that one Spiderman meme, everyone was just a clone.
Not everyone can pull off loafers either, there’s a certain level of XP it requires, and unfortunately, when you have an insufficeint balance, you can end up looking real stupid. Now, whilst personally I’d take great joy in flaming guys for their horrendous fits (I know most of you would too), I gotta keep it PG and positive… so we’re gonna showcase those who have more than sufficient XP to rock the loafer.
You see for me, the best dressed people, its not about what they wear. You can be in designer head to toe (underwear included), but if the fit is ass, the fit is ass. No matter how much it costs. Nah, the best dressed people in my eyes, (men and women) have one common dominator - they stay true to themselves. Not going out of their way to bite a next man’s flow, or wearing something simply because it’s in trend, because just like everything in this world, trends die, and then you’ll just be stuck with a closet full of bs you don’t even like.
So if I had to answer @thepeoplesgallery famous question of whats your styling tip to the people (manifesting that interview one day), it’d be “Find YOUR style, wear the pieces you genuinely like. And most importantly, NEVER COPY. Fashion to me is a form of art, and in the real world, if you copy an artist’s work, you’re gonna have to see them in court.
